Dive Into The Hype Chart
It’s time for another Last.fm Hype Chart: let Last.fm Originals guide you through the three acts generating the most buzz, right now. Last week a novelty song reached the top, but who’s made it this time around?
In at #3 is a 1970s duo who’ve been given a big helping hand by Californian arch-experimentalists Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. Brothers Donnie & Joe Emerson have gained a Hype Score of 705 since their track “Baby” has been popularised via cover version. It’s been scrobbled by 1,574 listeners in the past week, with the rest of the tracks from recently-reissued album Dreamin’ Wild also getting some love.
The #2 spot this week belongs to Joey Bada$$, tearing up the Hype Chart at the tender age of 17. 1999 is his breakout mixtape, gaining plaudits for its evocation of mid-90s hip hop. Tracks such as “Survival Tactics” have gained 2,088 listeners in three short weeks and gifted him a Hype Score of 1,780, suggesting there’s much more to come from the Brooklyn-based rapper and his Pro Era crew.
There’s another debut making waves at #1, this time for dream-pop supergroup DIIV. Featuring members of Beach Fossils and Smith Westerns, a Hype Score of 2,554 on the back of first effort Oshin is impressive. Album opener “(Druun)” has had 9,737 listeners in the past week alone, since its release on the 25th of June. Support slots with Best Coast should see those tracks reach even more ears – keep an eye on our charts to see if they can make it two weeks.
