Last.fm Discover Tag of the Week: Folktronica

In today’s world, its apparent that broad musical genres and subgenres are becoming further whittled down by passionate listeners in order to finely describe and categorize a musical composition. Often ‘tags’ are born by journalists struggling to make sense what’s in their headphones, allowing new genres like Folktronica to enter the fray.

This weeks Tag Of The Week, can be further explored in Last.fm Discover, which enables you to browse more than 2 million tracks from both emerging artists and emerging tags.

“Strange Things” by Hey-O-Hansen is a slow building track, fused with whispering vocals, deep dubby electronics and light string work.

The next track discovered was a bold mix of gentle folk and lo-fi-heavy electronics titled “Hill’s Adventure” by Bacanal Intruder.

Lastly, we were taken aback by an epic 9 minute synth-led track by Electric Mystical Soul Vibration titled “Pepper’s Ghost”. Encompassing not just Folktronica.. it also has elements of Prog and Psych, and really proves there are endless possibilities when it comes to making music.
