The Hype Chart Gets A Good Dusting

dusted post

Welcome back to the Last.fm Hype Chart – the definitive guide as to what’s hot in the world of the millions of Last.fm listeners. Last.fm Originals brings you the top three acts every Wednesday, so read on to find out who’s made the cut this week.

Working their way in at #3 this week is Dirty Projectors. We picked the band’s new album Swing Lo Magellan out a couple of weeks ago as one to watch and listeners have responded in huge numbers. No track on the new album was listened to by less than 8,584 listeners last week, with “Gun Has No Trigger” topping the pack with a monumental 15,417 listeners. With this (their sixth album) being so well received, it looks like the experimental pop group from New York will no doubt become a much more mainstream name as time goes on.

In at #2 is Oni Ayhun. Better known as male half of The Knife, Olof Dreijer is being listened to in droves as Oni Ayhun. His experimental electronic sounds peaked with the track “OAR003-B”, listened to by 584 Last.fm listeners last week. Whilst not much more is known about the project, the word is clearly making its way out to Last.fm listeners who have scrobled Oni Ayhun a total of 64,619 times.

Topping the Hype Chart at #1 this week is another side-project, this time in the form of Dusted. The Polyvinyl Records artist is the brainchild of Holy Fuck‘s Brian Borchedt and the result so far is the debut album Total Dust. The folk-pop record has been scrobbled 13,346 times already since its release last week and marks a new chapter in the diverse musician’s career.
