The Hype Chart Says Good Morning to the Night
It’s time for a new Last.fm Hype Chart, tracking down the artists on the up over the past seven days. Read on to find out who’s made the top three buzz artists this week, based on your scrobbles.
At #3 this week we find last week‘s chart-topper, Toronto-based Dusted. The Holy Fuck man’s side project is still riding high with a Hype Score of 536, and tracks such as album opener “All Comes Down” have been scrobbled by 913 listeners in the past week. Two weeks in the Hype Chart top three have shown that it’s not just the attraction of a familiar musician that’s attracting fans to debut Total Dust.
In at #2 is Atlanta project Moons, feeling the benefit of strong blog buzz to gain a Hype Score of 665 this week. The solo work of Patrick Canaday, single “Bloody Mouth” is limited to 250 copies on white vinyl, but it’s B-side “Waves at Night” that’s been unleashed on digital tastemakers, building momentum since mid-June and gaining 1,273 listeners over the past seven days.
Hitting this week’s top spot is the combination of a classic pop songsmith with modern producers: Elton John vs Pnau. The Australian duo have reworked some of his classic tracks, in a wholly artist-approved move: Elton signed them to his management company. It’s clear the collaboration has gone down well with listeners, too: “Sad” has gained 1,563 listeners in one week, with a Hype Score of 1,606 for the project and a #1 position in the UK album charts.
