This Week’s New Releases: Serj Tankian, Twin Shadow, Dirty Projectors
Leading the way with new music this week is System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian, returning with his third solo album Harakiri. The album is the first in a series of four forthcoming releases – the others being Orca, Jazz-lz-Christ and Fuktronic. Whilst still functioning as part of System of a Down, Serj Tankian has managed to amass 21,634,922 scrobbles of his solo work, with the first track from his first album (“Empty Walls” from 2007′s Elect The Dead) leading the way with 2,762,731 of them. With such an elaborate project ahead of him, the Armenian-American musician looks set to grow his status as a solo musician quite rapidly.
Pretentious adventures, dismissive apprehension

When we decline from the confines of our mind
Don't waste your time on coffins today

Next up is the new record from George Lewis Jr., better known as New York musician Twin Shadow. Tagged as dream pop, new wave and lo-fi by Last.fm listeners, Twin Shadow is able to boast 4,490,223 scrobbles after just one album – 2010′s Forget. It’s now time for the next chapter in his career with the release of Confess.
These girls ain't got nothing on you
Say baby, I had to mention
That if you were a star you'd be the one I'm searching for

Another New York artist bares new music this week, this time in the form of experimental pop/rock act Dirty Projectors. Swing Lo Magellan will be the band’s sixth album, despite only forming in 2002. The prolific sextet’s new track “Gun Has No Trigger” is sitting at the top of their latest top weekly tracks chart with 4,309 listeners – a stat which bodes well for the new album.
Her hair, it has meaning and volume and such a sheen
Sometimes, I think maybe I could go and talk to her
Her eyes, they look lonely far away yeah and inner
Oh baby, the socialites who act so nice
