seams

Welcome back to the Last.fm Hype Chart – our weekly look at the hottest new sounds in music based on your scrobbles. Last week it was Korean hip hop artist Psy who took the number one spot due to heavy scrobble action for the track “강남스타일 (Gangnam Style)”. Who will up there this week? Read on to find out.

At #3 with a Hype Score of 602 is Sweet Valley. Listeners of Sweet Valley will no doubt have been enticed by the fact that it is the side project of Nathan Williams, better known as Wavves. Joined by his brother Joel Williams, the duo recently released debut album Stay Calm and the stats speak for themselves. Track such as the tropical sounding “Total Carnage” were listened to by 665 listeners last week, with users on their Last.fm shoutbox musing that the record is “Something to zone out to for sure.” Sweet Valley support GZA/Genius across September and October, with the following being the first of those shows:

At #2 this week with a Hype Score of 617 is Australian-based British India. Their placing so high is almost entirely down to the popularity of the track “I Can Make You Love Me”, which comes from their fourth album due out later this year. It was listened to by 1,475 listeners last week – good signs that the new album is likely to put them right back in the Hype Chart when it’s released.
