Last.fm Discover Tag of the Week: Dirty South

62070.max1024

Dirty South often refers to Southern Hip Hop, and emerged in the late-1990s in cities such as Dallas, Atlanta, Memphis and Houston. With the rise and spread of Hip Hop from the East and West costs of America, the southern states began to develop and nurture their own respective hip hop scenes. The mix tape scene factored largely in the success of many of today’s southern rap artists due to major record labels largely ignoring the south, prompting many burgeoning rap artists  to release their music independently.
