Discover Tag Of The Week: Trap

This week’s Tag of the Week focuses on music tagged as ‘Trap‘. Critics of the term dub it as the use of the 808 Roland drum machine, pitched and re-sampled hiphop/rap vocals, pipe flutes, synth leads, and various FX. Although, the style originated many years ago, Trap music has recently been making a new school comeback in many new forms such as “Trap”, “Chirp”, “SeaPunk”, “PsyTrap”, and “TrapStep”. Earliest known examples can be found by artists such as Three 6 Mafia, UGK, Swisha House, and Gucci Mane.

We have scoured the tag on Discover  to bring you the very best in undiscovered Canadian talent. With over 2 million tracks to be explored on Discover, your new favorite artist could be just a few clicks away.

The first track on our radar is by Miami-based act HYDRAULIX. Titled ‘Got That’, it appears on the ‘From The Bottom EP‘. Slow burning until 1:20, it’s the kind of thing you’d expect at a zombie rave.

Next up on Discover comes in shape of Clicks & Whistles, a Charlotte based duo who specialise in a unique sound blending Southern Rap, Juke, and elements of Drum & Bass. ‘Radiator’, only has 825 scrobbles, and can be found on ‘Cranberry Goose‘ EP released last year.

The last thing to get our ears tingling is East Atlanta rapper Alley Boy. Featuring on a compilation release alongside the likes of Lil’ Wayne2 Chainz and Rick Ross,  ‘Back At It’ was Alley Boy’s most popular track last week with 317 listeners.
