Delilah, the sultry London-based pop/urban musician, performed at Parklife Festival in Manchester at the weekend and we were lucky enough to sit down with her for five minutes to talk about the artists that inspired her to get into music. Read on to check them out:

1. Amy Winehouse
“She’s from North London and there’s a sort of originality to her voice and even when she swears there’s such a sweetness to it. You always look forward to the journey that she takes you on in her music.”

2. Prince
“He’s just a musical genius – he can play everything and since meeting him I have even more respect for him. He can play every instrument, sings flawlessly and is a real inspiration”

3. Jill Scott
“She made the album ‘The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3′ and it’s something I listen to from beginning to end over and over and over again. The more I listen to it the more I love it and I think that’s really rare these days.

4. Massive Attack
“Such an innovative band and they created a sound for the UK that’s very dark, original and experimental”

Teardrop Lyrics
Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Feathers on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me, makes me lighter

5. MJ Cole
“I grew up on a lot of old school garage and drum and bass and there’s that one album ‘Sincere’ that introduced actual songs to Garage – as opposed to taking an old song and speeding it up and sampling it. It had a soulful vocal on top of really inspriational strings and mixed it with garage, meaning the songs had a much more conventional structure. Yeah, I rate that!”

Delilah’s debut album From The Roots Up will be released on July 30th.
