Discover 5 Acts With… Bastille
Another artist joining Last.fm at this week’s Summer Sundae festival will be Bastille. Here, Dan from the band speaks to us about five acts he’s been listening to a lot lately. You can pre-order their forthcoming EP ‘Bad Blood’ HERE.
To Kill a King
“These guys just released an EP called “Word of Mouth” that was recorded live in their rehearsal studio. You wouldn’t know from hearing it, it sounds pretty much like a studio EP and it’s free to download. Their songs and harmonies are awesome, and Ralph’s lyrics are quite complex and interesting. They’ve had some other singles and EPs out for a while and are a great live band too.”
SBTRKT
“It’s been ages since he released his debut album but I still think his production and mixes are incredible. Wildfire is an awesome song, as are the rest – and he’s got tracks with Sampha and Jessie Ware. He’s got new material coming out soon as well which I’m very excited about.”
Active Child
“I think he’s been around for a while but I only just got his album recently, it’s called ‘You Are All I See”. It is really beautifully produced and filled with harps and electronics. His vocals might put some people off, but he makes me think of an electronic Bon Iver or Joanna Newsome.”
Professor Penguin
“They released their debut album “Planes” a little while back. It is beautiful and restrained, and I love its mix of live instrumentation and subtle electronics. As a live band their sound is huge as well, there are loads of them and they have lots of brass and harmonies. You should definitely check them out live if you get the chance.”
Jai Paul
“He has only released a couple of songs so far. The first was called “BTSTU” and it originally came out years ago but it’s completely brilliant. His melodies are really interesting and memorable but he swamps them within the production and the tracks. Since then he put out a demo for another track called “Jasmine” which has grown on me. Basically I’m just very keen to hear an album or some more stuff from him, as I think a lot of other people are as well.”
