Messy MC – 5 MC’s That Got Me Into Music
In the last of our interviews from Parklife Festival, Messy MC reveals to us the five MC’s that inspired him to get into music. The London lyric-spitter won an award at the Drum And Bass Arena Awards in 2010 for Best Newcomer MC and has gone on to wow crowds at some of Europe’s biggest club nights.
1. MC Conrad
“He’s LTJ Bukem’s MC – really soulful MC who got me into that side of music in a big way”
2. MC DRS
“He’s a Manchester boy from the ‘Broken English’ crew. He’s one of the first MCs that I saw in drum and bass that was really, really lyrical as opposed to the generic ‘Skibadee’ stuff that MC’s usually do! He’s got a real good vibe about him.”
3. MC GQ
“Last of the drum and bass MC’s I’m picking is MC GQ. He’s been there from the beginning and is definitely a benchmarks in the genre. I’ve heard him MC the word ‘Round’ about ten times in a row! He’s still sick – he’s got a way about him. Has a deep voice that rolls well on drum and bass.”
4. Eminem
“Quite an obvious one but he was a massive influence to me, especially when I was younger.”
To take a stand, to take a stand
(Yeah, it's been a ride)
Everybody, everybody
(I guess I had to)
5. 2Pac
“It’s gotta be 2Pac. As a young, angsty youth he was the one. The hologram at Coachella was mental! Watching it on video I reckon you lose a bit of the real impact of what it was, but I can’t imaging what it actually would have been like to be there to see him come on. I bet it was so sick! I would have lost my mind to that. Hopefully Dr. Dre will be touring with the hologram!”
