The lineup is a little left field, with many diverse elements, from megastar Snoop Dogg to compelling up-and-comers like Sheepdogs. - Festival Founder, Dave Foran
Anticipation for the first ever Catalpa Festival has been sky high in the weeks leading up to July 28th when NYC’s Randalls Island will play host to the two day extravaganza. Catalpa 2012 will feature performances by some of the biggest names in music today includingThe Black KeysSnoop DoggTV on the RadioThe Big Pink, and much more.

In a recent interview with last.fm, festival organizer/founder Dave Foran said he chose Randalls Island so that fans would be able to “get home easy, and sleep in their own beds.” While it’s quite a novel idea, it certainly won’t be easy for fans to sleep as Foran has told fans to expect “experience overload” at Catalpa, saying “weird is good.” The unique experiences that make Catalpa special are a clear testament to the foresight of its founder, who worked tirelessly for months in an attempt to put fans first and make the first Catalpa Fest as memorable and enjoyable as it can be.

To fully achieve his goal, Foran included a number of special treats for fans that go far beyond the festivals stellar lineup including a sculpture that shoots flame balls while DJs spin inside, a 60-foot inflatable Church of Sham where you can turn marriage proposals into a sham or legitimate, a silent disco tent, reggae stage, art installations, bumper cars and much more. Foran went on to elaborate on his approach to festivals, stating his belief that there are “three crucial elements to a successful festival” - clean toilets, short lines for the bar/food, and easy access to get in and out.

Those three crucial elements will all be in place at Catalpa, with the highlight of the three being the many choices fans will have when it comes to getting in and out of the festival. While he does recommend taking the ferry to Randalls; city busses, walking and driving are all great ways to get in and out of the Island.

Catalpa 2012 will feature over 40 performers from many musical genres including Blues, Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Reggae and Indie. Check out the full lineup and find out where you can get tickets below!
