Last week we proudly presented a special album release show for soul rockers The Heavy. With their third release ‘The Glorious Dead’ just around the corner, it was the perfect chance to catch them in such a small place.
Upon our early arrival it was clear to see the band were out to impress those lucky enough inside. With more microphones on stage than fingers on hands, the raw Bath-based crew walked on to both rapturous applause and sweltering heat.
Early tracks from the self-produced record didn’t disappoint the sold-out crowd, with favourites such as ‘Sixteen’ and ‘How You Like Me Now?’ thrown into the mix. The band’s blend of garage punk, ska, voodoo funk, swamp rock, dub, blues and classic R&B rightfully brought the room to the simmer.
With ‘The Glorious Dead’ out next week via Counter Records and gigs around the world on the horizon, it could be some time before the band return to such an intimate setting.
