UPDATE: We’ve added Tezeo to the line-up as well.
Last.fm brings a night of eclectic electronic explorations to Santos Party House with a host of rising Brooklyn tweakheads. Blondes (duo Sam Haar and Zach Steinman) headline the night, with support from Telepathe (DJ set) and Andy Petr.
Blondes call Brooklyn label RVNG Intl. home – a fitting family considering the duo’s hypnotic rhythms (see: Sun Araw), detailed atmospheres (Laurel Halo), and otherworldly melodies (Julia Holter). But Sam Haar and Zach Steinman take those parts and yield something entirely distinct – emotive techno, to put it simply. Machine music with a human touch. Their debut album, Lover/Hater, was released in February 2012 to critical acclaim.
Andy Petr recently relocated from his home state of Minnesota to Brooklyn, where he now spends his early twenties producing an incredible amount of beat-oriented music. His second EP with Mixpak Records, called Obsession, will be available on July 10th but you can stream the entire release here. Drawing from the culture of dance re-edits and glitch hop, Andy pores through innumerable samples for the tiniest bits to excavate and salvage into a brand new dancefloor groove. Call it archaeology, crate-digging, or graverobbery – Andy’s method to producing yields a kind of dance groove you may recognize, but could never place.
Telepathe (pronounced telepathy) are Busy Ganges and Melissa Livaudais, two Brooklyn women who produced one of 2009′s most underrated records – Dance Mother. A synthpop record that was likely overshadowed by the blogosphere’s obsession with Merriweather Post Pavilion and Veckatimest, just like those two it has stood the test of time and signaled a growing commitment to electronic sounds in indie music for the following four years. They’ve recently released a new single via White Iris, which we hope foretells a new album may be in the works.
