Kendrick Lamar has inspired countless fans and music lovers with the songs off his debut album good kid m.A.A.d. city. Among those most inspired by Lamar’s lyrics and melodies were the hundreds of visual artists who entered a poster contest curated by the art & design community known as Creative Allies. From those incredible works of art came the inspiration for “Own The Stage: The good kid m.A.A.d. city Art Show,” presented by Footaction, which took place in Brooklyn on May 2, 2013 and featured 28 outstanding poster contest finalists. In a moment of “art meets life,” the real Kendrick Lamar took the stage for a surprise set at the end of the show, treating those assembled to renditions of his current hits like “Poetic Justice” and “Swimming Pools (Drank).”
In an exciting surprise-within-a-surprise, UK superstar Emeli Sande joined Lamar onstage for the first-ever live performance of their duet on his single “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe.”
