Yppah f/Anomie Belle, Distal, and Archie Pelago Perform
On Friday night, June 22nd, we welcomed an eclectic line-up to the back room of Public Assembly during the first non-stop thunderstorm day of the summer.
Cambo from The Kort warmed the growing – and soaked – audience with choice selections, blending Boards of Canada with Quasimoto during an all vinyl-DJ set.
Yppah took the stage at 11pm with Anomie Belle and played a majority of tunes off the latest album, Eighty-One. Joe Corrales and company kept the audience enthralled with their unique mix of post-rock and trip hop, creating cinematic soundscapes that warranted a chorus of “encore” from a packed room.
Archie Pelago took over without a moment wasted. As soon as Yppah said “goodnight,” the trio – Hirshi (DJ), Cosmo D (cello/ableton), Kroba (ableton/sax) – worked up a salacious rhythm with ear-tickling melodies that the group have become renown for in certain NY dance circles. Good news for everyone without the pleasure of seeing these boys live – we’ll have the full audio from their set up to stream later this week!
Distal treated the late night crowd with a relentless acid house set, bludgeoning the dance floor with tough 303 basslines. That kind of set doesn’t happen in NYC too often, but those with their ears to the ground got a second dosing last night at Percussion Lab Radio.
The Archie boys jumped back on their gear for a quick b2b set with Distal, before fully taking over for a second set that guided the dancefloor to a 3am mass – deep, eyes down vibes to end a night of many moods.
