Currently out on a North American tour, we were lucky to have Tony, Erik and Miranda of Great Lake Swimmers pop in for a stunning acoustic session back in late May. Four songs were performed from their fifth and latest album New Wild Everywhere. What makes this album truly unique one for the band is that it’s the first time they’ve recorded in a traditional recording studio. The trio talk about the experience in our chat with them below. Great Lake Swimmers have tallied over 7,100,000 scrobbles on Last.fm thanks to their 440,000 listeners. “Your Rocky Spine” from the album Ongiara is by far their most scrobbled track, with the title track track from the new one settled right behind it.

Great Lake Swimmers – Easy Come Easy Go

A song that was demoed after getting off the road touring for the previous album Lost Channels. The song was a fun one to play and put big smiles on everyone’s faces, so they decided to record it.

Great Lake Swimmers – The Great Exhale

The studio version of this song was not recorded during the studio sessions for New Wild Everywhere. They went back to their familiar recording ways and did a three day session in an unused transit station in Toronto called Lower Bay Station. The songs from this session were originally planned to perhaps make up a companion EP after the release of the album. But they felt this song stood out, so they decided to add it to the album. (Scenes for the movie Total Recall had recently been filmed there).

Great Lake Swimmers – Fields Of Progeny

A song that came together really well in the studio. The Canadian released version of the album includes a bonus version of this recorded in French entitled ”Les Champs de progéniture”.

Great Lake Swimmers will be a part of Supercrawl coming up September 14 & 15 in Hamilton, ONT. They are scheduled to hit the stage on Saturday the 15th at 9pm.
