The Last Word: Holly Miranda on her self-titled release, Joshua Tree & honesty

Holly Miranda opens up about opening up on her latest self-titled record with Dangerbird. From seclusive writing leading to a rediscovery of her passion Holly's latest work is easily her most honest.

Michigan born, Tennessee transplant singer-songwriter Holly Miranda visits last.fm following the release of her latest self-titled album.  A self-proclaimed ‘rediscovery’ of herself, Holly ventures back over her 17 years of music-making to reignite the spark that set her career in motion in the first place.  The result is something honest & vulnerable, but that doesn’t scare Ms. Miranda.

Holly decided it was time to seclude herself and rented the first house in Joshua Tree she could find.  There she was able to eliminate all distractions and focus on the core of what makes Holly, Holly.  Realizing it is a myriad of elements: from her upbringing to her band & allies – Holly reached down deep and came back with what you may not call a ‘reinvention’ but it is certainly something more raw than her previous efforts.

With 45k listeners & 627k scrobbles spanning back throughout her debut in her community church as a singer, learning piano and self-teaching guitar & trumpet; Holly released her debut High Above The City in 2001.  From there she has been a part of the Brooklyn based band Jealous Girlfriend, as well as existed under the moniker Raven Mayhem. Most recently, she even toured as a member of Karen O‘s band, as well as built a relationship with TV On the Radio (Dave Stieck & Kyp Mallone both being crucial players in the production of her records.)
