Mideau: Interview (Last.fm Sessions)

Mideau come to Last.fm to discuss their connecting through other prior musical endeavors, maintaining a band while living in different zipcodes, sonics & live shows.

Libbie Linton + Spencer Harrison = the core of Mideau [Mid-doh].  A recipe that bakes together some of that late 90’s piano-pop revival, dashes of vintage-indie and a fine sugar coating.  The two Salt Lake City originals combined forces some time back and after a successful Kickstarter campaign, have come to achieve that ‘something’ bigger that they were looking for.  The name of the band itself is constructed from two word fragments that together loosely translate to “middle of the water” – a concept that resonates as equal parts serene and unnerving.

Libbie was pursuing her own solo career when she encountered Spencer in 2k9; you may remember her record Bird Wings in the Bleak.  Spencer was previously a member of the jazzy/psychadelic/rock outfit known as Fictionist (also originally from Utah.) In a chance happening, Spencer joined Libbie in an on-stage cover of Eddie Vedder’s smash ukelele hit “Tonight You Belong To Me” (217k scrobbles).  Although based at different ends of the nation, the two found course through the zipcodes to begin collaborating and committing to such a raw sense of musicality that the whole shebang just felt, well… natural.

Following some high profile gigs (including opening for the Doobie Brothers,) Mideau is laying low for a minute… getting ready to move into their own brand new private studio space.  Their Way With Words EP debuted this past spring,  Recorded with Nate Pyfer (Kaskade, The Moth & The Flame) and audio engineers Scott Wiley (Neon Trees) and Mike Roskelley (Late Night Alumni), Way with Words EP is a four-song sneak-peek into the band’s sound. The EP title track, “Way with Words,” has already been featured in television and film including the Fox Searchlight 2013 sleeper hit, Enough Said, starring James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Way With Words Lyrics
I do my best to keep from catching cold and getting quiet
And though I try to sleep the sound once soft is loud
So loud and clear
It's constant and banging on the back porch door
