Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses are back with a brand new album Junky Star, and just prior to it’s release, Ryan stopped by our studio as part of The Street Date Sessions.

It’s great to have new music from Ryan Bingham & The Horses, still fresh off the heels of Ryan’s high profile awards. Back in January he grabbed a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “The Weary Kind.” It was then followed two months later by an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The track, co-written with T-Bone Burnett, is in the movie and on the soundtrack to Crazy Heart, a film in which Ryan also appears in. At the recent Americana Awards, Ryan also took home the awards for Song Of The Year and Artist Of The Year.

The writing of the T-Bone produced Junky Star album, has been a work in progress for Ryan over the past few years while traveling and while touring. At times the album hits me with a gloomy and spooky vibe. Ryan assured me that his writing is optimistic, but a way for him to vent and getting stuff off his chest.

The Weary Kind Lyrics
Your heart's on the loose
You rolled them sevens with nothing to lose
And this ain't no place for the weary kind

You called all your shots
