Last.fm Sessions hit the road for our session with Scottish rockers, Twin Atlantic. We packed our equipment and headed to the Chelsea Television Studios to hook up with Sam McTrusty (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Barry McKenna (lead guitar, cello, backing vocals), Ross McNae (bass guitar, piano, backing vocals) and Craig Kneale (drums, percussion, backing vocals). Once settled inside we were treated to three songs from the new latest album Free and a good old-fashioned chat about the band and the making of the album. The band is currently on The Warped Tour. Get info and dates here.

The rest of the band had thought when Sam wrote the song that it was about the Virgin Mary being an alcoholic. That of course, was NOT the truth at all!

Twin Atlantic – Time For You To Stand Up

One of the few relationship-driven songs on the album. It laid unfinished until the end of the recording sessions and was completed by adding the melody on the spot.

Twin Atlantic – Crash Land

This song started out as a pop-rocker and was turned around by Barry and it became the slowest ballad they ever wrote. They chimed in to say  it took a rather long time to “get it right”.
