A few weeks before the release of their latest album Phil Eck produced/engineered album Heaven, Hamilton Leithauser, Matt Barrick, Peter Bauer, Paul Maroon and Walter Martin of The Walkmen stopped off at our NYC studio. Of the four new songs they did acoustically, some had not been played by the band together until this session. “Heaven” is currently their most scrobbled track this week while “We Can’t Be Beat” is #2 all-time.

The oldest song on the new album. They’ve been playing this one live for a long time. Recorded in just two takes.

The last song written for the record before they headed to the recording sessions in October of last year. Hamilton wanted more background vocals and vocal presence on many songs on the album. This was one of the few that made it. His goal was to have it sound much like The Fleetwoods, who had two #1 hits, “Come Softly To Me” and “Mr. Blue” in 1959. This session was the first time the five of them played it live, anywhere.

Recorded so quietly that Hamilton says you can hear every little noise in his mouth and stomach rumbling!
