The Cribs helped us debut Sessions at The Bowery Electric by joining us on a crisp, sunny Wednesday afternoon last month. It has been nearly 2 1/2 years since the brothers (with Johnny Marr) gave us a rocking performance in our original studio. This time, with younger brother, drummer Ross, looking on, twins Gary and Ryan strummed away at four songs off their fifth studio album, In The Belly of The Brazen Bull. The session gets kicked off with one of their current most scrobbled songs, “Come On, Be A No One”. This tune pretty much started off as you see it, acoustically. It was originally attempted during a session with Edwyn Collins producing, in London. After being forgotten about for a while, it was jolted back to life by a stomp box in a garage in Wakefield. (Watch their session from 11/14/99 here).
The Cribs – Anna
“We already pretty much had the album written when we came up with this song. It is built around a particularly catchy, heavily effected guitar riff in the chorus, and we liked it so much that we decided we had to finish it and get it on the new record”.
The Cribs – Back To The Bolthole
“Perhaps the first song wrote specifically for the new album. Conceived, like many good things, in a motel room in Seattle, WA”.
The Cribs – I Should Have Helped
“Written during an imposed period of downtime due to the Icelandic volcano ash cloud. Was a pretty unsettling time, weird headspace”.
