The story of this band is truly one of working hard, believing in yourself, and doing whatever it takes to get the world to hear your music. It’s also a story of staying true to one’s roots and musical principles, and of finally watching it all pay off. For years, Southern California’s The Dirty Heads were grinding it out in clubs and small stages in and around Huntington Beach, treating a small but growing fanbase to their truly original mix of hip hop, rock and reggae.
Recently we got a visit from founding members Jared “Dirty J” Watson and Dustin “Duddy B” Bushnell and percussionist Jon Olazabal at the Last.fm Studios in New York City. The guys were in town to promote their new album Cabin By The Sea which represents the band’s finest work to date and includes guest spots from the likes of Matisyahu, Kymani Marley, and Rome from Sublime. Here they are performing a great tongue-in-cheek track from the new album, titled “Hipster.”
The Dirty Heads – “Hipster”
Everybody wants to know what's happenin
I'm spread way too thin, what's the big rush now?
Tell me why you're rushing
I'm spread way too thin,
The Dirty Heads are best known for their previous hit “Lay Me Down” which became a radio sensation at places like KROQ in Los Angeles and spread across the country and around the world, setting the stage for the band’s work on Cabin By The Sea. Here’s their studio performance of “Lay Me Down,” enjoy.
The Dirty Heads – “Lay Me Down”
On the run, from the one That they called Sheriff Spark
Six guns by their side and Bullets around the waist
Two shots to the sky Sing the sound for the chase
The safe was nearly empty and They were nearly free
