The dynamic former lead singer of The Academy Is… has stepped out on his own. William Beckett, who was on a solo acoustic tour, stopped off for a session while in New York City in-between a show in Teaneck, NJ and NYC that evening. He played all four songs from the debut solo EP Walk The Talk and chatted with us about the EP, the new one Winds Will Change and the final days of The Academy Is… His former band has tallied nearly 24,000,000 scrobbles and have nearly 687,000 listeners. His new solo venture has him at nearly 58,000 scrobbles from his 2,800 listeners.
William Beckett – Girl, You Should Have Been A Drummer
William’s favorite concept in any song he has ever written. He worked on this one with his producer in Nashville. The song’s last lyrics were written in the car on the ride to the studio as he heard loud music coming from the car next to him.
William Beckett – Oh, Love
His favorite on the Walk The Talk EP and favorite to perform. He was “severely” hungover in Los Angeles when he wrote it. Nevertheless, it came quickly and natural.
William Beckett – You Never Give Up
Written in the winter months near the end of the year. William was starting to wonder what was going on with his music and his career. He kept himself positive by leaning on his family and those who have believed in him over the years. It was written in “a place of darkness” but turned into one of the most hopeful songs he ever wrote.
