Last.fm Interview with Wormburner

The Brooklyn band chronicle their history as Wormburner, & trace some of the themes on their new record 'Pleasant Living in Planned Communities'

We on the studio crew recently had the pleasure of reacquainting ourselves with some old friends.  You may remember this throwback to 2011 when Wormburner ‘Session-ed’ for us the first time:

Well, since then the Brooklyn-based (by way of New Jersey) ‘indie rock luminaries’ have written and produced their third EP – Pleasant Living in Planned Communitiesand are very excited to share the new music with you here via Last.fm.

KEXP in Seattle calls Wormburner “anthemic indie rock with a punk rock kick” – twice honoring the guys with the Song of the Day designation. And Robert Christgau’s just added the fellas to his ranked “Dean’s List”.  In ‘Communities’, the band touch on themes of PTSD, as well as weave an elaborate cinematic tapestry starring the one and only fictional character “Daniel” in pursuit of answers about social privilege, hidden identity, & the seedy underbelly of NYC.

The guys draw heavily from influences such as Steely Dan (specifically “Kid Charlemagne”), The Clash, The Pogues & Bruce Springsteen.  Wormburner has shared stages with Violent Femmes, Old 97s, The Walkmen, Deer Tick, School of Seven Bells and Camper van Beethoven.

The record itself is anything BUT a ‘wormburner‘ – the catchy hooks and mouth-watering melodies definitely constitute something more of a homerun in our eyes.  The CD and vinyl for Pleasant Living in Planned Communities can be picked up directly from Dive Records or via iTunes
