The innovative renaissance woman Donn T. has released the promised and much awaited follow-up to November’s EP Gramaphonica, Donn T today released her new full length The Flight of The Donn T.
Beyond her obvious striking talents, Donn is ingrained in the business side of the music industry; contributing songwriting credits to tracks like “I am Music” by Common ft. Jill Scott, as well as co-writing on several pieces by Black Eyed Peas, to Rihanna, to Madonna and more. She has performed alongside champions such as John Legend, Amy Winehouse, Zap mama, and even Patrick Stump. Not to mention, her lineage isn’t anything to scoff at. Her granddad was Beachy Thompson, of the famed gospel group The Dixie Hummingbirds; father: Lee Andrews of Lee Andrews and the Hearts; Oh… and you may have heard of her brother ?uestlove (The Roots)… although she just calls him Ahmir.
Her writing is what some call “Kaleidoscopic,” translating the post-disco musical scene of NYC in the late 1970’s-80’s, sprinkling in a healthy dose of contemporary soul & bundling it altogether in catchy, powerful R&B. Fans of modern ‘stripped-down’ London electronic funk should definitely cast an ear to the record.
New songs “Waiting” (official music video debuted on Okayplayer last month) and “Midnight” are already climbing her Top Tracks charts.
“…her bluesy new joint … is tense, intimate and striking all at once.” – Okayplayer
