Thrash metal pioneers Metallica have just released their first new material since 2012’s Beyond Magnetic EP, which featured songs recorded in 2008 for the bands last full length effort “Death Magnetic” – but left off the final cut. The new song, entitled ‘Lords of Summer‘ was first debuted by the band at their March 18th concert in Bogota, Colombia on the first night of their “Metallica By Request‘ tour in which fans with tickets get to vote on the bands set before the show.
Shortly after releasing the song for download on LiveMetallica.com, the band followed up with a ‘Garage Demo‘ (a nod their ‘Garage Days‘ LP) of the song, recorded at Metallica HQ in San Rafael, CA. Drummer Lars Ulrich recently commented on the thrashy new track saying that it’s “fairly representative of where our creative headspace is at right now” and they they are certainly writing and creating regularly once again; gearing up for the release of a new album currently slated for 2015.
