This Week’s New Releases: Chris Brown, Flo Rida, múm

Chris Brown

We’re checking out the new album releases that will kick off a musical July, and first in line is Chris Brown with his fifth effort, Fortune. The follow-up to last year’s F.A.M.E., it seeks to carry on the success that’s gained him 1,907,514 listeners on Last.fm, despite a fair share of controversy. Lead single “Turn Up The Music” has gained 98,376 listeners so far, so we’ll wait and see if the rest of the tracks can match up.

Turn Up The Music Lyrics
[Chris Brown]
Turn up the music, cause this song just came on
Turn up the music, if they try to turn us down
Turn up the music, can I hear it til the speakers blow
Turn up the music, fill your cup and drink it down

Former Chris Brown collaborator, Flo Rida, also has an album out this week: Wild Ones is his fourth since 2008. Album opener “Whistle” is gaining in popularity with 63,182 listeners over the past two months, but he’ll be hoping for a better performance from Wild Ones than previous album Only One Flo (Part 1), which failed to set the charts alight in 2010.

Whistle Lyrics
Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby
Let me know
Girl I'm gonna show you how to do it
And we start real slow
You just put your lips together

Finally, for something completely different: Icelandic post-rock group múm present a collection of early recordings, entitled Early Birds. Fans of the group should be happy: their most popular track on Last.fm remains 2002′s “Green Grass of Tunnel”, with 201,660 listeners. A more niche act with 533,528 listeners overall, Early Birds should serve as a reward for their fans since 1997.
