Between now and the airing of the GRAMMYs (February 10 on CBS), we’re going to look at and compare scrobbles from key nominees in the Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist categories. We’re kicking it off with the Record of the Year nominees – today, we’re looking at Frank Ocean‘s hit “Thinkin Bout You”.
Undoubtedly one of the most talked albums and artists of the year amongst fans and critics alike, channel ORANGE by Frank Ocean was a runaway success of quite epic proportions. Testament to that is his six GRAMMY nominations – most notably in the coveted Record of the Year category for smash hit “Thinkin Bout You”.
Excuse the mess it made, it usually doesn't rain
In Southern California, much like Arizona
My eyes don't shed tears, but boy they pour when...
The success of “Thinkin About You” is clear to see from looking at his latest charts. Last week’s breakdown of Frank Ocean listening by Last.fm users shows how well received the track has been with almost double the amount of listeners as second placed “Pyramids”. Allowances for it being a single aside – that is some popularity gap.
Last.fm users have taken to the track’s shoutbox in a big way. Statements such as rhinowing‘s “best song of 2012 by a large margin” and perDV‘s “This is a classic. Didn’t know they were still making them….” may be bold but they ring true of an artist who has captured the hearts of music listeners worldwide – not just with his music but with his inspiring open letter to the world announcing his love for another man. 2012 was undoubtedly Frank Ocean’s but can he continue the success into 2013 with the gong for Record of the Year?
Find out if that many scrobbles can equate to a GRAMMY, February 10, on CBS at 8/7 c.
