Whitehouse could be argued as an important figure for independent music, their early shows acting as actions against the perceived "relationship" between audience and performer that has been abused in the era of rock n' roll. They exemplified the disconnect in power between the performer (or, "artist") and the consumer ("audience") by abusing their own crowds with insults and thrown objects, even when rewarded with cheering and clapping. Their records raised the question as to how thin the line between "sound" and "music" is, and what difference is there between being provocation and exploitation. The cover art to their Cruise album winks at this. Whitehouse were more of an conceptual piece as opposed to being a traditional "musical group" entitled to the screaming praise of "fans" who unquestionably follows. In the era of "stans" and "music nerds" they aged well in that sense. Then William Bennett realized people buy expensive reissues and that all got thrown out the window.

I don't think it's unreasonable to progress from the person you were decades ago. The world was different as was the "mission" and after a while, you may begin to wonder if some of your music will go out of print otherwise. There's nothing wrong with making it more accessible to people who wouldn't hear it/be aware of it otherwise.

Things you can learn with Bennett: italo disco, being confident about your cock... Will not even start on the phased high-pitch screaming sex talk, dude had a way with ladies. Now if you learned something from Sotos, good luck with FBI.

That makes sense. To remain original, one must drink from different sources.
