Oriental means "from the East". It is a traditional designation for anything that belongs to the Eastern world in relation to Europe. Oriental music encompasses numerous and different musical styles originating from a large number of Asian countries. It includes Turkish music, Persian music, Jewish music, Arabic music, Central Asian music, South Asian music, Southeast Asian music, and East Asian music. The adjective Oriental may also apply to numerous styles of Balkan and Greek music due to the pronounced Eastern influences.
